About Jennifer

Jennifer Crystal Chien has worked as a consultant, trainer, and coach since 1998. In her work with scores of organizations and people, she has observed patterns of transformation and what supports this deeper level of change. She is fascinated by opportunities for growth found in times of transition, uncertainty, challenge, and new ventures.

Jennifer’s approach to consulting and coaching is spiritually-based and revolves around creating presence. With organizations, she observes patterns, elicits a deeper truth, and seeks to intentionally create a shared future. With individuals, she focuses on listening carefully to the underlying stories in people’s lives to help them consciously reinterpret their stories while staying present and aware.

Jennifer has taught in the Professional Development for Consultants program with the National Community Development Institute and is a certified NLP Coach through the NLP and Coaching Institute of California.

What is change?

First-order change

    * Adjustments within the existing structure
    * Doing more or less of something
    * Restoration of balance (homeostasis)
    * Non-transformational
    * New learning is not required
    * Old story is told

Second-order change
(*where luminous works)

    * New way of seeing things
    * Shifting gears
    * Often begins through
    the informal system
    * Transformation to something
    quite different
    * Requires new learning
    * New story is told
